Hershey’s For Your Valentine

It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without chocolate! One of my favorites, Hershey’s, has some great tasting items for giving (and eating).  We tried out four of them….  Reese’s Peanut Butter Hearts Valentine Exchange come in the perfect snack size for children/adults to give to one another and each heart has  To: and From: on it, with 30 pieces per bag.  You can also choose from heart shaped Jolly Rancher Lollipops (20 pieces), Kit Kat (30 pieces), and Assortment Pack (30 pieces).

Hershey’s Bliss Milk Chocolate with a Raspberry Meltaway Center is also heart shaped in colored foil and swirls.  I love fruit flavors and this wasn’t disappointing.  You may remember the review and giveaway I did last year for Hershey’s Bliss, well, this is a perfect fit with the other Bliss flavors.  You can’t eat just one!

Pot Of Gold Premium Collection Pecan Caramel Clusters in a red heart shaped box and a gold bow.  There are several different varieties of candy and boxes to choose from, so you can get their favorite.  It is so nice to look at you really don’t want to open it, but how else are you going to get to the goodies inside?

And lastly, everyone’s favorite, Milk Chocolate Kisses, wrapped in red, pink and silver foil and hearts.  Fill up a candy dish, use in recipes, give in a gift bag, wrap in tulle tied with a ribbon… the ideas are endless.

Visit the Hershey’s website to find gift ideas, recipes, crafts, and even make Valentine’s cards to print yourself or send by e-mail.

Tupperware

It seems like Tupperware has been around forever and a good majority of moms or grandmothers have sold it or had parties.  My mother had a set of salt and pepper shakers that lasted my whole childhood.  She melted them one day I believe, so I had bought her another set quite a few years ago.  They weren’t the same as the older pair, which we both liked better, but they were still Tupperware.  I have had a few items of theirs for a while also.  As I said, they seem to last forever.  Recently I received a few more items to try out:

You can never have too many items for the kitchen!  I never thought I would be someone who would get excited about storage containers, pot and pans, etc, but I am.  The Quick Shake Container is suggested for shakes, mixing up pudding, smoothies, salad dressings, scrambled eggs-  just about anything you can think of actually.  The lid was a bit hard to put on at first and the lid for the pouring spout was also kind of hard to put on.  Maybe with use that will improve.  I love the fact it has measurements on the outside, fits easily in your hand, easy to wash, and I love the color.

The Flat Out 4 Cup Container Set is super easy to store, since they collapse.  It seals completely, is easy to wash and again, I love the color- orange.  I have been using these almost daily and would definitely recommend them.  They are the perfect size for our leftovers.  They aren’t for use in the microwave.

One of my favorites is the Quick Chef.  You can chop fruit and veggies or use the paddle and make salad dressings, mayo, dips or pesto sauce.  The bottom has a non skid ring so it doesn’t move around while you turn the handle.  It also has a funnel attachment so you can add oil while turning the handle.  You do have to cut the veggies up a little so they fit, otherwise you won’t be able to turn the handle.  I suppose that makes since.  It’s a quick and easy way to make salads and the bowl holds quite a bit.

The Stuffables Mini Set have an expandable lid making it easy to store odd shaped food and if you push down on the lid, it pushes out the air, seeming to make food last longer.  The three different size bowls are a lifesaver and they are stackable, so they don’t take up much room.  The lime aid color goes great in our kitchen, which is green.

The Instant Manicure and Hand Lotion are both from BeautiControl, which is a part of Tupperware.  They carry body care products such as cleansers, lotions, scrubs, fragrance and more.  I had heard of BeautiControl years ago but had never tried any of their products.  The Instant Manicure was easy to use- just mix up and rub into your hands and rinse off.  It made my hands super soft right after using but then they were very dry.  But that was ok because then I used the Hand Lotion which has a nice, light scent and soaks in quickly.  I finally had soft, smooth hands!  It was a nice treat.

Tupperware has so many items.  Everything from kitchen towels to the Shape O Toy (which I bought for one of my nephews a while back).  I think they will always be a staple in kitchens worldwide.  I loved everything I tried out!

Chocolate Cheerios-CLOSED

Almost everyone loves chocolate. I know I sure do! Cheerios has now come out with a new flavor- chocolate, made with real cocoa. Of course it is still low in fat, has 100 calories and at least 8 grams of whole grains per serving, and  is a good source of calcium and vitamin D.  How does it taste? It isn’t bad and it leaves you with chocolate milk, which kids will enjoy.  I think this would be a good way to get kids to eat something good that isn’t loaded with sugar.

Here is a recipe using Chocolate Cheerios, perfect for Valentine’s Day.  It’s fun and easy to make and it sure does taste good!

Chocolate Cheerios® Marshmallow Hearts

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Start to Finish: 1 Hour 45 Minutes

Crust
1 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 cup Chocolate Cheerios® cereal, crushed
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups miniature marshmallows

Topping
2/3 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 bag (11.5 ounces) milk chocolate chips
4 cups Chocolate Cheerios® cereal
Candy sprinkles, if desired

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Line bottom and sides of 13×9-inch pan with foil. In large bowl, mix all crust ingredients except marshmallows with electric mixer on low speed until crumbly. Press firmly into bottom of pan.
  2. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven. Immediately sprinkle with marshmallows. Return to oven; bake an additional 1 to 2 minutes or until marshmallows just begin to puff. Cool while preparing topping.
  3. In large saucepan, place all topping ingredients except cereal and sprinkles. Heat over medium-low heat just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in 4 cups cereal. Immediately spoon warm topping over marshmallows; spread to cover. Sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Cool completely, at least 1 hour.
  4. Using foil to lift, remove mixture from pan; remove foil. With deep 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 18 hearts. Store loosely covered.

Divinitea

In December, MH went with some of his family up to New York and while there, he did a little shopping.  He brought home some loose tea from Divinitea, which is located in Schenectady.  They sell premium Certified Organic loose leaf teas and Teaware, and all the tea is custom blended and freshly packed.  All proceeds from their herbal Vanilla Cinnamon is donated to AIDS foundations and organizations.

He bought Poached Pear Green Tea, which is made with green tea, cinnamon, clove, allspice, natural pear flavor.  It smells so good!  The taste is delicious also.  Yum is all I can say.  They have so many varieties, from Creamsicle White Tea to Decaf Black Tea.  Don’t forget the accessories either.  The prices aren’t bad and the tea is amazing.  I would recommend this store to anyone who enjoys a good cup of tea.

I wish they had stores/shops like this one around where we live.  All we have is Wal-Mart and fast food restaurants.  I guess that is what happens when you live in a small town- no selections.

‘I was not compensated for this small review.  I just posted to tell others about the product we had purchased and enjoyed.’

Rich Products: SeaPak & More

I used to love seafood, especially shrimp, but over the years, that changed.  I prefer fresh caught fish that MH brings home every year from a day fishing.  In my opinion, most of the fish products you purchase at the store taste awful and hardly have any fish or shrimp in it.  I thought I would give it another try when I received a coupon for SeaPak.  When I went shopping, I see there are several choices of SeaPak products and they actually look good!  Butterfly shrimp, popcorn shrimp, shrimp scampi, and dijon crusted tilapia.  Hmmm, what to choose…

I went with the Jumbo Butterfly Shrimp, since MH likes it.  So that night we sit down to supper and try out our shrimp.  Amazing!  It actually tastes like shrimp and not breading.  It was quite good and we were both satisfied.  I would definitely buy it again.

When you visit the SeaPak website, you can find delicious recipes, coupons, and even contests.  Check out the Store Locator to find all the products that are available near you.

Another Rich Products is Casa Di Bertacchi Meatballs, which are sold at Sam’s Club.  I love having ready made meatballs that can be used whenever I’m in a hurry or just don’t know what to make for supper.  I received the 101 Things To Do With Meatballs cookbook by Stephanie Ashcraft ($9.99) and was stunned that there are so many recipes using meatballs!  From Spicy Meatball Burritos to Tater Tot Kid’s Casserole.  I have yet to make anything, but within the next month or two, I’m sure I will be trying out some of them.

General Mills Reduces Sugar

Recently General Mills has made the commitment to reduce sugar in kid’s cereal.  They are also adding more Calcium and Vitamin D, and using Whole Grains.

Studies have shown that there are many health benefits for those who eat cereal each morning:

  • Ready-to-eat cereal is the #1 source of Fiber in a child’s diet
  • Those who regularly eat cereal have healthier body weights than those who don’t
  • Children who eat breakfast perform better in school than those who don’t
  • It’s rich in nutrients
  • Consume less fat for breakfast
  • Reduced calorie intake

I have found that if I don’t eat breakfast, I will snack all day, but if I eat breakfast, I will be satisfied, thus eat less.  General Mills has several varieties to choose from, making it a good choice for the whole family.  Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Wheaties, Chex, Fiber One, Trix, Total, Reeses’s Puffs….

While shopping for General Mills cereal, I noticed for the first time that the cereal aisle is arranged by brand.  I feel embarrassed because I never noticed this before.  I just looked for the type of cereal we wanted and went on my merry way.  I will never look at the cereal aisle the same again.

POM Wonderful Juice

I tried POM Wonderful Juice recently and enjoyed it, which surprised me because a few years ago I tried it and didn’t care much for it.  That shows how our tastes can change.  It has a sweet and tart taste but doesn’t make you pucker like cranberry juice can, and it’s good for you.

Benefits found from Clinical Studies, based on drinking 8 oz. Daily:

  • Improves Cardiovascular Health
  • Improves Prostrate Health
  • Improves Erectile Function
  • A Good Source of Antioxidants

There are many juice drinks in stores that say they are good for you, but look at the ingredients!  Does it have added sugar, preservatives, colors, or ‘filler juices- meaning it’s not 100%’?  POM Wonderful is made with 100% Wonderful pomegranate juice, grown, picked and squeezed by them.  They even manufacture their own bottles, which are unique. I love the shape.

If you visit the POM Wonderful website, you can find delicious recipes, research, connect with them on Facebook and Twitter, and more.  There are several POM products available, and I thought they only made juice.  Boy, was I wrong.  You can choose from:

  • Juice
  • Fresh Fruit
  • POMxTea
  • POMx Iced Coffee–3 flavors
  • POMx Bars–2 flavors
  • POMx Pills
  • POMx Shots

You can purchase POM Wonderful at grocery stores, health food stores, delis, and other fine stores.  You can use the Store Locator to find the place closest to you.  I’m going to have to try out the POMx Tea, it sounds good.  I found that if you don’t particularly care for the taste, if you mix it with something it tastes great.  I tried it with Gingerale and loved it.  I give this two thumbs up and will be buying it from now on.

There is a new salt in town, that is lower in sodium, all natural and rich in potassium!  NutraSalt is an all natural Sea Salt and is a healthier alternative to regular table salt, especially for those with high blood pressure, heart problems and kidney disease.  It has 66% less sodium than regular table salt.  There are several varieties to choose from:

  • Low Sodium Sea Salt
  • Seasoned Salt
  • Texas BBQ
  • Savory Garlic
  • Zesty Italian
  • Lemon Dill
  • Lemon Herbs
  • Robusto Adobo
  • Spicy Cajun
  • Bold Chipotle
  • African Medley
  • Asian Fusion
  • Classic Curry

We received several of these to try out.  Each one comes in a glass bottle with a flip top lid, making it easy to use.  MH loves the Asian Fusion but I don’t know which I like the best. Every one has a flavor I like.  I have been using it on meat, veggies and whatever else I can think of to add it to.  The Savory Garlic tastes very good on top of a buttered roll!  I also like the fact that it’s made with natural ingredients and has less sodium, and I think it tastes better than the Sea Salt we purchased from the grocery store.  It has just the right amount of flavor, that is the best way I can describe it.

There are several recipes on the NutraSalt website.  The Lemon Chicken and West African Black Eyed Peas are delicious!  You can purchase online and enjoy savings that are going on right now.  The prices are the same as or better than store brands.
