Is Music on A Christmas List?

I’ve been listening to a new cd for the past week, Them Crooked Vultures, which was released in November, and have been enjoying it.  It reminds me of the music I listened to all the time when I was a teenager.  Rock music has always been my favorite, and this band didn’t disappoint.

It is comprised of Dave Grohl (from Nirvana, Foo Fighters), John Paul Jones (from Led Zeppelin), and Josh Homme (from Queens of the Stone Age).  They are currently on tour in the UK and Europe and will be in New Zealand and Australia in January 2010.

You can purchase their new album in stores now or on iTunes.  If you are into soft rock, country or pop, this album isn’t for you.  If you like hard rock, alternative rock, then you will enjoy this!  The track listing is:

  1. No One Loves Me & Neither Do I
  2. Mind Eraser, No Chaser
  3. New Fang
  4. Dead End Friends
  5. Elephants
  6. Scumbag Blues
  7. Bandoliers
  8. Reptiles
  9. Interlude With Ludes
  10. Warsaw Or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up
  11. Caligulove
  12. Gunman
  13. Spinning In Daffodils

This would make a nice stocking stuffer for the music lover in your home.  I’m not sure which song I like the best.  I’ll have to listen to it more and decide then…  Listen to a preview below!

The Sound Of Music

I remember having to sing Do-Re-Mi over and over again in chorus.  It’s one of those songs you always remember.  I’ve watched the movie/musical quite a few times also.  Did you know it has been 50 years since it opened on Broadway?  Wow!  Sony Music is celebrating this milestone by releasing the 50th Anniversary Special Edition of the Original Cast Recording: The Sound of Music ($11.94 at Amazon) along with a Collectible Pop-up Book ($17.81 at Amazon) from Simon & Schuster.

The Sound of Music opened November 16, 1959 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, NYC, with the original Cast:
Maria Rainer–Mary Martin
Sister Berthe–Elizabeth Howell
Sister Margaretta–Muriel O’Malley
The Mother Abbess–Patricia Neway
Sister Sophia–Karen Shepard
Captain Georg von Trapp–Theodore Bikel
Franz–John Randolph
Frau Schmidt–Nan McFarland
Liesl–Lauri Peters
Friedrich–William Snowden
Louisa–Kathy Dunn
Kurt–Joseph Stewart
Brigitta–Marilyn Rogers
Marta–Mary Susan Locke
Gretl–Evanna Lien
Rolf Gruber–Brian Davies
Elsa Schraeder–Marion Marlowe
Ursula–Luce Ennis
Max Detweiler–Kurt Kasznar
Herr Zeller–Stefan Gierasch
Baron Elberfeld–Kirby Smith
A Postulant–Sue Yaeger
Admiral von Schreiber–Michael Gorrin

The cd includes pictures from the original Broadway cast and information about making the play.  The songs include:

Act I
The Sound of Music
My Favorite Things
Sixteen Going on Seventeen
The Lonely Goatherd
How Can Love Survive?

The Sound of Music (reprise)
So Long, Farewell
Climb Ev’Ry Mountain
Act II
No Way to Stop It
An Ordinary Couple
Sixteen Going on Seventeen (reprise)
Climb Ev’Ry Mountain (reprise)
Bonus Tracks
From Switzerland: The Pratt Family–starring Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett
Edelweiss (in German)
Suk Dig Till Bergen (Climb Ev’Ry Mountain) in Swedish

The Pop-up Book is hardcover and is for children 4 years and up and is very nicely done.  On the first page, Maria actually twirls around!  There are 6 pop-up pages along with 14 mini pop-ups that tell the story of Maria and the von Trapp family.

Both of these would make excellent gifts, especially for those who love The Sound of Music!  I enjoyed both of them and was really impressed with the quality of the pop-up book.

A Thanksgiving With Celebrities-CLOSED

This Thanksgiving you can share the holiday with Sandra Lee from the Food Network and Joshua Bell, Grammy Award Winning Violinist.  She will show you how to make a great Thanksgiving Day feast in less time in her newest book, Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cocktail Time.

I have watched her show numerous times and love the way she makes a big meal with simple ingredients.  She even shows you how to decorate the table–if only I was that creative, and gives helpful tips like the one below:

“If you’re facing a time crunch—pick party foods that are delicious and impressive, without being fussy.”

The perfect pairing with the meal is listening to Joshua Bell’s newest album, At Home With Friends, which can be purchased at Amazon.

One person will win a copy of Joshua Bell’s album, At Home With Friends, thanks to Sony!

You can purchase your copy at Amazon or on iTunes now. Visit for more information about the band, which started in 1973, tour dates, news and more.

My Opinion:
This is an upbeat, updated rock version of some of your favorite Disney songs. My favorite was Heigh-Ho because that song was always fun to sing while growing up. After listening to this cd, I have been humming or singing these old songs over and over again. You can’t seem to get them out of your head. I actually prefer this new version of the songs than the old classics. Your kids will love singing along to this cd.

Five For Fighting Review & Giveaway-CLOSED

Thanks to One2One Network, I had the opportunity to listen to Five For Fighting’s newest album Slice, which was available in stores October 13, 2009. John Ondrasick’s debut album, Message for Albert, was released in 1997 but he really became popular with the hit ‘Superman’ from the album America Town, in 2001. I love that song!

Songs include:
Note to The Unknown Soldier
This Dance
Above the Timberline
Story of Your Life
Love Can’t Change the Weather
Augie Nieto

*Purchase a copy of Slice on Amazon or iTunes. You can view all his Tour Dates, videos, tweets and find out more on his website. Also visit John on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube.

My Opinion:
I enjoyed listening to the pop-rock songs, especially the song ‘Slice’. There was a good mixture of fast and slow to give it variety. Great lyrics, some of which really make you think. I would definitely recommend this one!

‘I received a sample from One2One Network to facilitate my review and I was NOT compensated in any way. This is my honest opinion only.’

One Person will WIN an autographed copy of Slice, provided by One2One Network!
