Jeanne's Ramblings

L’Oreal Lash Boosting System

I have been using the L’Oreal Paris Lash Boosting Power System for about a month now and have mixed reactions.  I like the serum and how it makes my lashes feel but I don’t care for the mascara with the lash boosting primer because it makes my lashes hard and just does not feel good.  These are two new products from L’Oreal Paris, made with fortifying amino acids, panthenol, ceramide, arginine, and centella asiatica, to condition, protect and reinforce lashes.  You can purchase them separately or together at major retailers, they are Opthalmologist tested, and safe for contact wearers and those with sensitive eyes.

L’Oréal Paris® Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum

  • Apply to bare lashes before bedtime for an intensive overnight conditioning boost. Also apply underneath your mascara for all-day benefits
  • For best results, use daily with Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara
  • Suggested Retail Price: $14.95

L’Oréal Paris® Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara

  • Step 1: The Lash Boosting Primer, our exclusive serum-infused basecoat, perfectly primes and extends lashes.
  • Step 2: The Ultra-Lengthening Mascara Topcoat instantly lengthens lashes up to 80%
  • Available in Black and Blackest Black
  • Suggested Retail Price: $12.95

Both together in a 24-Hour Lash Boosting Power System

  • This starter kit contains both Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum and Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara at a special value price
  • Mascara available in Black
  • Suggested Retail Price: $24.95

Both products were easy to use.  The serum did not irritate my eyes or skin and felt cool after applying.  I did not notice an increase in length or the amount of lashes but they did feel softer and didn’t seem to fall out as much.  The basecoat that comes with the mascara made my lashes hard and I did not care for it at all.  The mascara wasn’t bad but neither seemed to make my lashes appear longer or fuller.  There was some clumps like most mascaras I have used, but it coated/covered pretty good and lasted all day.  It was easy to remove also.  I would recommend the Lash Boosting Serum but not the Mascara.  After four weeks of use L’Oreal gives these statistics:

  • 71% –seems to have more lashes
  • 75% –lashes seem thicker
  • 78% –less lash loss during makeup removal
  • 81% –lashes seem to be in better condition

I would agree with the lashes being in better condition and less lash loss, but I didn’t experience more or thicker lashes.  Maybe other people will have different results, which you can view on the L’Oreal website.

Tropical Traditions Liquid Soap-CLOSED

The latest item we have tried from Tropical Traditions is the Unscented Liquid Soap, $7.50, which is made of 100% Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.  You can also get scented varieties (Tea Tree or Lavender $9.50), which have organic essential oils added.  It comes in an 8 oz. bottle with a special dispenser that adds air to the soap making it foam.  That means it’s easier to use and you get more uses out of each bottle.  You can also get refills in a generous 32 oz. size for $25.00 ($33.50 for scented varieties).

I have never used soap like this before, so I was anxious to see how it would clean and how it would affect my skin.  I used it on my hands and on my face, which will really show me how good it is.  It cleans completely with no residue left behind and it doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry, just clean.  One push of the pump and you have all you need!  I was satisfied with the results and will continue to use it.

You can view my past reviews for Tropical Traditions products here (Virgin Coconut Oil), here (Shredded Coconut), and here (Coconut Peanut Butter), all of which we have enjoyed using, especially the Shredded Coconut!

Skin MD Natural Lotion & Giveaway

Last year I did a review for Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion and loved it! I was recently asked to do another review for their other lotion, Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion + Sunscreen SPF 15. It comes in a 4 oz. bottle and contains many ingredients that are good for your skin, such as aloe and vitamin E, with the added benefit of SPF 15. It does not feel greasy or irritate your skin like a lot of sunscreen can.  Even during the winter you should be using sunscreen, especially on your face since every other part of your body is probably covered with warm clothes.

Skin MD lotion enhances your skin’s hydrating and protective abilities, is naturally antimicrobial, and is made with natural ingredients.  Some people have found it to help sensitivities to latex (for those who work in healthcare and have to use gloves continually), Eczema, chlorine, and helps their skin look younger.

Everyone I know of gets dry skin in the winter and believe me, this lotion helps a lot.  After applying your skin feels soft and smooth, almost like a matte finish.  If using on your face, it won’t make your skin oily either, for all those out there with oily or combination skin.  It’s truly a lotion that can be used by everyone!

Dermatology tested
No animal products or testing
Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic
Fragrance and colorant free
Paraben free
You get FREE shipping on orders over $50 and don’t forget to get your sample while visiting.

Now through February 7th, Skin MD is having a Valentine’s Giveaway, valued at $100, which includes:

  1. A Bottle Skin MD Natural shielding lotion
  2. A Bottle Skin MD Natural + SPF 15 shielding lotion
  3. One pound of See’s dark assorted chocolates
  4. 12 Starbucks VIA Ready brew coffee pouches
  5. A “Kiss Me” mug
  6. A Cuddly teddy bear
  7. Lollipop Bouquet
  8. All in a lined wicker basket

All you need to do is enter your name and e-mail address.  The Winner will be chosen on February 8th and will be shipped promptly to arrive for Valentine’s Day!  Good Luck.

Cottonelle Team Over

Cottonelle is doing a poll, which do you think is right?

a)place your toilet roll over
b)place your toilet roll under

I always place mine over because it looks better and is easier to tear.  Of course that is how hotels, etc do it also.  Way back when, I never thought about it, then a friend of mine was visiting me and said, ‘you have your toilet paper on backwards’, that’s when I started taking note.

New Colgate Products

Colgate has a few new products out- 360 Actiflex Toothbrush, Total Advanced Whitening toothpaste, and MaxWhite with Mini Bright Strips toothpaste, and we had the chance to try out all three.

MaxWhite with Mini Bright Strips Toothpaste is a gel infused with mini bright strips to whiten your teeth and remove surface stains.  It comes in a clear 6 oz. tube in two flavors- crystal mint and minty sparkle, and sells for $3.29.  We got the minty sparkle flavor and the taste was good.  After using, your teeth and mouth feel cool, and squeaky clean.  I really liked the clear tube also, making it easy to see how much you have and you can see how nice it looks with the bright strips throughout it.

Total Advanced Whitening Toothpaste is a paste with an antibacterial formula that protects the teeth and fights germs for 12 hours.  It has the ADA’s Seal of Acceptance, helps prevent plaque, gingivitis, tartar build-up, cavities and bad breath for healthier and whiter teeth.  It comes in three sizes: 4 oz for $3.29, 5.8 oz for $3.79, and 7.6 oz for $4.29.  This worked about the same as the other toothpaste.  We like the gel more because it tastes better and makes your mouth feel fresher.

360 Actiflex Toothbrush has a flexible bridge that enables it to flex from side to side to help clean around the teeth.  It also has a cheek and tongue cleaner, a wide thumb grip area, slim handle, cone-shaped tufts to help clean gums and in between teeth.  It comes in blue, green, pink, and yellow colors and sells for $3.99.  I haven’t used a manual toothbrush in quite some time, so this was new for me.  It’s very comfortable to hold onto and seemed to clean my teeth good.  The tongue cleaner was a nice benefit also.  A lot of people never clean their tongue when they brush their teeth, which is a bad thing because there is so much bacteria that collects there.

We enjoyed using all three products and would use them again.  All of them can be purchased at mass retailers nationwide.  Remember, it’s recommended to replace your toothbrush every three months!  Visit the website for coupons too.

EcoStore USA Review & Giveaway-CLOSED

EcoStore USA is a great place to shop for household cleaners and personal care products for your home at a decent price and best of all, there are NOT all those nasty chemicals you find in a lot of brands you buy in stores.  All their products are made with plant and mineral based ingredients, so it is safe for you and the environment.  I have been using two of their products lately and I was truly impressed.  Many of the ‘green’ products don’t clean as well as the regular cleaners, but that isn’t the case here.

The Toilet Cleaner I’ve been using actually cleans better than any other toilet cleaner I’ve used before!  I don’t particularly care for the scent but it sure does clean good and it is thick enough to stick under the rim so you can scrub it clean.  I can’t say I have done much scrubbing, just went over the whole bowl to spread the cleaner around.  I’ve noticed the bowl stays cleaner longer also, which is good because some people forget to flush.  It can also be used as a cleaner on stainless steel.  The toilet cleaner sells for $8.00 for a 17 fl. oz. bottle, which will last a long time because you don’t need to use much.

  • Water
  • Ethanol
  • Anionic and Amphoteric Detergents (from coconut oil)
  • Formic acid
  • Ethereal Oils
  • Chlorophyll
  • Polysaccharide
  • Citric acid

It does NOT contain toxic petrochemicals, phosphates, bleach, nitrates, ammonia, EDTA, preservatives, DEA or TEA, synthetic dyes or perfumes.

The other item I’ve been using is the Front Loader Laundry Powder, which comes in a 35.3 oz. box (bag actually inside the box) and sells for $12.00.  I experimented with this to see how it would effect MH, who says every detergent makes him itch except Tide Free liquid.  I washed some of his clothes with the Tide and some with the Laundry Powder.  What was the outcome?  The Tide made him itch and the Laundry Powder didn’t!  It cleans just as well as Tide, doesn’t leave a lot of suds left in the washer, and has a light clean fragrance.  Comparing price, you actually get more uses from the Laundry Powder than the Tide and it is cheaper.

  • Palm and coconut based non-ionic and anionic surfactants
  • Silicates and carbonates (simple mineral salts)
  • Citrates (from citrus)
  • Cellulose (plant based)
  • Sodium percarbonate (oxygen producing whitener)
  • Natural Lemon Verbena Oil

It does NOT contain toxic petrochemicals, phosphates, nitrates, ammonia, enzymes, chlorine, EDTA, optical whiteners, synthetic dyes or perfumes.

You can also purchase Baby Care, Bath & Body, Hair, Pet Care, and Household products.  They are having a 50% off sale on all Baby Care products and FREE SHIPPING on orders over $25!!

Thanks to EcoStore, ONE PERSON will win a $25 gift certificate!

GO! Gorgeous Kit

For the past month I have been using Skin Authorities GO! Gorgeous Kit, which includes daily cleanser, moisturizer with SPF 30, resurfacing accelerator, and tri-power peptide hydrator.  The four piece set is small, perfect for traveling or as a beginning set, each product is 0.7 fl. oz. and it sells for $52.00.

I had to use the products twice daily for at least 21 days for best results.  The cleanser is a clear gel and doesn’t dry your face out.  It feels clean and not like it has been ‘stripped’.  With combination skin, it’s hard to find a product that helps the oily spots and doesn’t dry out the normal or dry spots of your face.  It either doesn’t clean enough or too much, leaving it tight and sore.  I had no problems with this cleanser and enjoyed using it.  The moisturizer with SPF 30 is thick and soaks in quickly, with no irritation whatsoever.  It leaves your face feeling like it has a smooth, matte finish.  The resurfacing accelerator is only to be used on areas you want to treat, like rough, dry, or dull areas.  I didn’t use this much because I didn’t really need it but I had to try it out.  Again, I had no problems or irritation with use.  I noticed a small difference in a few areas I used it on.  The last product is the tri-power peptide hydrator, which was to be used at night after the resurfacing accelerator.  It is of a much thinner consistency than the daytime moisturizer, but moisturizes almost as well.  I didn’t feel like I got enough moisture using this at night.  It wasn’t bad, but my skin felt a little tight and uncomfortable.

I didn’t notice a diminish of fine lines around my eyes (which is the only place I have them, thank goodness), but my skin has been clear and feels smoother.  The price is a bit high for these products, but they work better than many store brands I have used.  I would recommend Skin Authority to anyone wanting to take good care of their skin.  There are products for the whole body.  You can find the right products for you by using the product advisor, either by skin condition, product type, or by ingredients, making it much easier to find what you are looking for.  Another benefit at the website is the Knowledge Center, where you can find information by listening to live radio, watching videos, reading articles, or seeing if there are events in your area.

One thing men always need is a good razor/shaver.  MH has a full beard now but did have a goatee (which I liked so much better).  He uses a razor several times a week to keep it trimmed up along the cheeks and neck.  Why does their beard always seem to be a different color than their hair?  Or maybe it’s just that way with some men.  Anyway, he has been using the Remington R5130.  Here are its features:

R4130–sells for $44.99
R5130–sells for $54.99

Baby Magic

I remember many years ago when my little brother was a baby, my mother using Baby Magic lotion and body wash.  I loved the scent then and I still do.  He is now in his 20’s with two boys of his own, and they use Baby Magic also.  In case you are wondering, I was 13 years old when my baby brother was born.

I hadn’t realized how many different products Baby Magic has.  They include:

  • Gentle Baby Lotion
  • Gentle Baby Lotion-Soft Baby Scent
  • Gentle Baby Lotion-Baby Blossoms Scent
  • Gentle Hair & Body Wash
  • Gentle Hair & Body Wash-Original Baby Scent
  • Gentle Hair & Body Wash-Baby Blossoms Scent
  • Calming Baby Bath
  • Calming Baby Lotion
  • Creamy Baby Oil
  • Cologne
  • Soothing Jelly
  • Baby Powder
  • 2X Mild Laundry Detergent

And gifts perfect for Baby Showers, New Babies, etc:

  • Bathtime Caddy Gift
  • Starter Basket
  • Baby Bathing Basics- Gift Bag
  • Baby Bathing Basics- Gift Basket

We have been using the baby powder, creamy baby oil and gentle hair and body wash for a few weeks now.  MH doesn’t care much for the baby scent, but I love it.  The baby powder is hypo-allergenic, and the ingredients are talc and fragrance.  I’ve always used baby powder to freshen up, I also use it in our shoes, and after getting a haircut to stop the itching.  Did you know that if you don’t have time to wash your hair, you can rub a little baby powder throughout and it will look and smell clean?  I have done this a few times and it works great!  It’s also great for the occasional irritation you get during the warmer months or while exercising.  It sells for about $3.20 at retailers nationwide.

The creamy baby oil is terrific for removing makeup, and of course, softening your skin and also is hypo-allergenic.  We used to use baby oil on a resident in the nursing home because she had such dry skin (doctors orders).  You could tell if someone missed a day because her skin would just flake off.  The creamy formula is so much better because it isn’t ‘slippery’ like the oil used to be.  It doesn’t make a mess either.  It sells for about $5.19 at retailers nationwide.

Finally the product I have been using daily, the body wash.  It is thick and a moderate amount is needed to clean with and rinses off easily.  You can even use this on your face, another plus.  It contains aloe and vitamin E, both of which are good for the skin.  It sells for about $5.49 at retailers nationwide.

Baby Magic has been in business since 1951.  You can find bathing tips, information about skin care, grooming, bonding with your baby and more online.  You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter!

Aquafresh Iso-Active Whitening Toothpaste

I’m always up for trying new personal care products.  I love it and when I find something good, I tell everyone I know about it.  Since I have been doing reviews, I have found numerous products I have enjoyed using.  My thing is, when it comes to personal care, you can never have enough.  Sort of like toilet paper and paper towels.  A month ago I received the new Aquafresh Iso-Active Whitening Toothpaste to try out.

It is a foaming gel and comes in a 4.3 oz container which is very easy to dispense-just press on the top and it comes out.  It still seeps out even after it has been dispensed, so you have to wipe it off (if you tend to be a neat freak, or leave it there if you don’t really care).  Make sure not to use too much because it foams up quite a bit.  You don’t want to be foaming at the mouth!  Something you may not like, you can’t tell how much is in the container.  You will have to do a shake test and try to determine how much you have. It doesn’t taste bad, about the same as the regular Aquafresh toothpaste, and leaves your mouth and teeth feeling clean.  Not a ‘I brushed my teeth with sugar feeling but a run your tongue over your teeth and saying hmmm, that’s clean’ feeling.

Iso-Active’s revolutionary gel activates the moment you start brushing, transforming into a micro-fine foam. This active foam penetrates hard-to-reach places around your mouth, protecting between your teeth and giving you a whole-mouth clean.

It can be purchased nationwide at mass retailers and grocery stores, in three varieties: Fresh Impact, Deep Impact, and Lasting Impact.  The container is also recyclable and does not contain CFC’s, but it is flammable.
