Jeanne's Ramblings

A Very Long Day

I was up most of the night the night before and then around 2:00 am, Nellie got off or fell off the couch and then she kept falling and her legs where going every which way.  MH and I were pretty concerned because she kept on doing it.

So he takes her to the emergency vet and they do blood work and check her out.  Everything came back normal and they couldn’t find anything wrong with her.  They told MH is she got worse to bring her back in.  Not satisfied, he made an appointment with her regular doggie doctor and took her in this afternoon.

She was acting like she normally does and was eating, drinking and going to the bathroom just fine.  The only problem is her falling down and acting like she has no control over her legs.  Now her regular vet examined her and thought that maybe she hurt her back somehow, which is very possible the way she runs around all the time, and if she doesn’t improve they would do x-rays and see if there was any neurological problems.

So far last night she has been walking fine and still acts normal and happy.  She is our baby so it was upsetting and neither one of us got much sleep….

And here I sit playing on the internet because I decided to change from Blogger to WordPress.  I imported all my posts and had to go back and try again to get all my comments switched, but then it copied all of the posts, so I had to go through and delete all that and it still hasn’t imported all my comments.  Oh well, I’m tired so I can figure out how to use WordPress later.

Now you know why everything looks different and has been changing.

What Would You Like To Receive on Valentine’s Day?

I was thinking today, sometimes a scary thought, and wondered what it was I would really like to receive on Valentine’s Day… Just having MH tell me he loves me is more than enough. I don’t remember getting much for Valentine’s Day at any time. I’m sure over my lifetime I have gotten something, but for the life of me, I don’t recall what it would be. Of course there are the parties you have in school and gifts from parents, but I won’t count those.

What would you like and from whom?  What is your most memorable gift? How many of you HATE Valentine’s Day?

Dating Etiquette

Last year I did a review for Peter Pauper Press and I thought I would share a little from one of the items I reviewed since it’s the month of LOVE, a page from…..

‘The Little Pink Book of Etiquette, by Ruth Cullen’…..

Courtesy is as much a mark of a gentleman as courage. -Theodore Roosevelt

Uh, yeah. I’ll call you.
Dating is much like interviewing for a job.  You clean yourself up, put your charming, witty self on display, and then wait for something to happen.  And your good manners can make all the difference when it comes to scoring the job or second date.

The foremost rule of dating concerns cold, hard cash.  As a general rule, the person who asks for the date pays for the date.  Although you may wish to split the bill by choice, as someone else’s date you are not required to do so.

When the date is underway, do not ask for doggie bags, talk about exes, or receive cell phone calls- especially on first dates.  You’ll have plenty of opportunities later in the relationship to ignore your companion and make a pig of yourself.

Now here’s the tricky part.  Though convenient and tempting, it’s never a good idea to say you’ll call or e-mail when you know you won’t.  When possible, be direct so that you avoid setting false expectations for someone else.  Mature or direct types may have no trouble calling it like they see it:  ‘Though I don’t think we’re a match, Tito, I enjoyed meeting you and wish you all the best.  Buh bye.’  More times than not, however, our actions speak louder than our words.  It may seem rude or cowardly, but when you don’t have the heart to tell someone how you really feel (‘I can’t get past your mullet.’), and you try to spare their feelings by hoping they get the message some other way (you move to Toledo), you’re actually showing them courtesy and respect.

If they don’t read your signals (you’re never home, or you’re very busy, or you have malaria, or the like) then give them time.  If they’re still calling two years later and lurking outside your workplace, then call the police.

I thought this was insightful and funny.  What are your thoughts?  Have you done any of these things before?

No Snowman For Us

Yes, I went out to play in the snow but was unable to build a snowman because the snow wasn’t packy enough.  More snow is forecasted for tomorrow and Wednesday though.  I had some videos of Nellie playing but it doesn’t seem to load to YouTube for some reason.

Do any of you build snowmen?

Another Snowy Weekend

This is the second weekend we have had snow. I know, no big thing, but I’m not used to getting snow down here (in Virginia).  It’s usually like fall all winter.  Last weekend it was 11 inches and this weekend it was about 7 or 8 inches, with rain and sleet mixed in, so there is ice underneath.  It’s pretty I admit and I can’t say I really hate it as long as the roads are bare.

I told my sister I might go out and play with Nellie and build a snowman.  It’s been years since I’ve done that!  It used to be so fun to go outside and play, and go sledding.  A funny thing I noticed last weekend, I don’t have any boots to wear because I got rid of all that stuff when I moved here in 1998.  I told MH the other day and he said ‘good luck trying to find any in stores now.’  I do believe he is right.

More is in the forecast for this Tuesday…  Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy the Super Bowl and stay warm!

New Look For Valentine’s Day

I wanted to change the look of my blog, once again, for Valentine’s Day. I don’t know what it is about it but I’ve always loved the heart images, flowers, and cute stuff that you see everywhere at this time of the year.  It’s only weeks away…  I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day in years but I wouldn’t hate it if I was treated special on that day, hint, hint MH.

Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?  Give gifts, cards or candy?  Tell me what you do for the big day!

Oh yeah, my cute siggie was made by Shannon of Simply Shantastic, thanks again

Twelve Years Later

I’m surprised I’m posting this because I usually don’t show anyone pictures of myself.  Maybe it’s the change of attitude after reading so many blogs lately?  Anyway, a first for me…  The first blurry picture that you have seen on my blog, is of me twelve years ago.  I was 28 years old at the time.

And this picture was taken today…12 years older, 50 pounds heavier, and much less hair.  By government standards, I would be considered obese.  Thanks to hormones, lack of exercise and eating junk.  The thing that bothers me the most is the thinning hair because of PCOS.  I used to have such nice hair that I could do just about anything with.  Today it decided it wanted to be frizzy.

So there you have it.  I’ve actually put my face out there.  I’m not ready for any body shots yet though!  I haven’t improved that much.  I tried to give myself a makeover over at Lifetime, but it froze up on me.  You upload your picture and you can try different hairstyles and makeup.  I wanted to see what it would be like with a lot of hair again.  I’ll stop whining now.

From Books To Movies

I have read several books and then watched the movie afterwards and the books have almost always been so much better.  Some of the movies have been so different from the book it makes you wonder what you are watching.  I just finished The Shining by Stephen King and found out the original movie with Jack Nicholson wasn’t as accurate as the remake, go figure (I liked the original movie better too).  Another example is I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.  The book was so-so to start with but the movie with Will Smith is so different, with a totally different ending.  I didn’t like it at all.  One more example off the top of my head is Dreamcatcher by Stephen King.  I thought the book was really good but the movie sucked big time.  They deleted some really good scenes and it just sucked.  I suppose that’s enough complaining, rambling today…

Um, There Is Chocolate In The House

MH came home from visiting his brother a few days ago.  I noticed yesterday while getting something to drink out of the frig that there was a box of Uncle Sam’s Candy in there.  I mentioned this candy in a previous post, saying how much I love it….  Anyway, MH tells me that I can have one (there was five in the box) and that is it because they are his.  Ok, I will eat just one….until today when I saw the box again and said to myself  ‘it is ok if I have just one more, he won’t mind’, then proceeded to grab a truffle out of the box and start munching.

How on earth does he expect me to NOT EAT chocolate??  Come on, I’m female, it’s just calling out my name….Lorri….you really need to eat me…..Lorri….just one….you know you want to….

I think I may have to buy him another box of truffles, but wouldn’t that mean I would be eating them again?  Thanks again Uncle Sam’s Candy for the delicious temptation, I truly appreciate it.
