Cake Off For A Cause

Join Kelly Ripa and Electrolux to help support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, with Cake Off For A Cause:

Self-proclaimed baking enthusiast, Kelly Ripa, Buddy Valastro, from TLC’s ‘Cake Boss’ and Electrolux are teaming up with a virtual campaign that offers Americans a sweet way to make a difference.

On February 9th, five teams of baking enthusiasts were invited to take part in Kelly’s Cake Off, where they used what they learned from Ripa and the Cake Boss, to decorate their own cakes. We need your help to select the winning cake and support a worthy cause. For every vote cast in the Cake Off, Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).

While you are there, get in on the decorating action and send your own masterpiece. Visit Kelly’s Cakery to decorate and send your own special virtual cake to a friend, family member or loved one. For every cake sent, Electrolux will donate another $1 to OCRF.  Plus, to help spread the word, everyone who sends a virtual cake will be automatically entered for a chance to win every baker’s dream: a stylish new Induction Range from Electrolux. The new induction range is perfect for melting chocolate and cooking delicate foods and sauces, more responsive than gas, and eco-friendly, too.

You can also check out top cake decorating tips and videos from Buddy. Even sign up to receive a call from Kelly on your birthday!

Visit Kelly Ripa’s ‘Cakery For a Cause’ to support the fight against Ovarian Cancer.  Also follow Electrolux on Facebook and Twitter or Tweet it yourself with the Hashtag #CakeOff

You can send a cake or vote every day!  It is a hard choice to pick the best cake because they are all so pretty.  Right now Fall For Me is in the lead…

L’Oreal Lash Boosting System

I have been using the L’Oreal Paris Lash Boosting Power System for about a month now and have mixed reactions.  I like the serum and how it makes my lashes feel but I don’t care for the mascara with the lash boosting primer because it makes my lashes hard and just does not feel good.  These are two new products from L’Oreal Paris, made with fortifying amino acids, panthenol, ceramide, arginine, and centella asiatica, to condition, protect and reinforce lashes.  You can purchase them separately or together at major retailers, they are Opthalmologist tested, and safe for contact wearers and those with sensitive eyes.

L’Oréal Paris® Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum

  • Apply to bare lashes before bedtime for an intensive overnight conditioning boost. Also apply underneath your mascara for all-day benefits
  • For best results, use daily with Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara
  • Suggested Retail Price: $14.95

L’Oréal Paris® Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara

  • Step 1: The Lash Boosting Primer, our exclusive serum-infused basecoat, perfectly primes and extends lashes.
  • Step 2: The Ultra-Lengthening Mascara Topcoat instantly lengthens lashes up to 80%
  • Available in Black and Blackest Black
  • Suggested Retail Price: $12.95

Both together in a 24-Hour Lash Boosting Power System

  • This starter kit contains both Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum and Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara at a special value price
  • Mascara available in Black
  • Suggested Retail Price: $24.95

Both products were easy to use.  The serum did not irritate my eyes or skin and felt cool after applying.  I did not notice an increase in length or the amount of lashes but they did feel softer and didn’t seem to fall out as much.  The basecoat that comes with the mascara made my lashes hard and I did not care for it at all.  The mascara wasn’t bad but neither seemed to make my lashes appear longer or fuller.  There was some clumps like most mascaras I have used, but it coated/covered pretty good and lasted all day.  It was easy to remove also.  I would recommend the Lash Boosting Serum but not the Mascara.  After four weeks of use L’Oreal gives these statistics:

  • 71% –seems to have more lashes
  • 75% –lashes seem thicker
  • 78% –less lash loss during makeup removal
  • 81% –lashes seem to be in better condition

I would agree with the lashes being in better condition and less lash loss, but I didn’t experience more or thicker lashes.  Maybe other people will have different results, which you can view on the L’Oreal website.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this show until now and found some episodes to be funny and a good distraction from the everyday things you see on tv.  The characters are likable and the bonus features weren’t too bad.  You can order a copy, view clips and more HERE.

I started watching this show a year or so ago while flipping through channels one day.  It was pretty good and didn’t take long for me to figure out what was going on and who all the characters are.  If you enjoy Desperate Housewives, I’m sure you will like this show.  The bonus features were interesting.  You can find more information about the show at myLifetime.

National Cancer Prevention Month

Last year I did a review on the Ultimate Cloth. This month they are donating all February proceeds to help those who can’t pay for cancer screenings.  By purchasing an Ultimate Cloth, you will be helping too!  With so many people affected by cancer, the economy, and having no insurance, every little bit of giving/sharing helps.

No Snowman For Us

Yes, I went out to play in the snow but was unable to build a snowman because the snow wasn’t packy enough.  More snow is forecasted for tomorrow and Wednesday though.  I had some videos of Nellie playing but it doesn’t seem to load to YouTube for some reason.

Do any of you build snowmen?

Another Snowy Weekend

This is the second weekend we have had snow. I know, no big thing, but I’m not used to getting snow down here (in Virginia).  It’s usually like fall all winter.  Last weekend it was 11 inches and this weekend it was about 7 or 8 inches, with rain and sleet mixed in, so there is ice underneath.  It’s pretty I admit and I can’t say I really hate it as long as the roads are bare.

I told my sister I might go out and play with Nellie and build a snowman.  It’s been years since I’ve done that!  It used to be so fun to go outside and play, and go sledding.  A funny thing I noticed last weekend, I don’t have any boots to wear because I got rid of all that stuff when I moved here in 1998.  I told MH the other day and he said ‘good luck trying to find any in stores now.’  I do believe he is right.

More is in the forecast for this Tuesday…  Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy the Super Bowl and stay warm!

Happy Birthday!

Today is my nephew’s birthday. He is a whole one year old! The last time I saw him he was a little munchkin, not even 6 months old. Time goes by so fast.  I hope you had fun at your party and playing with big brother!
